Construction Starts on the McLaren Vale Overpass
Featured Article

Residents of McLaren Vale and the Fleurieu Peninsula, as well as visitors to the region, will soon enjoy quicker, safer journeys to and from Adelaide following the start of work on replacing the existing T-intersection between Victor Harbor and Main Roads with a new overpass.
Representing Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese, Kingston MP Amanda Rishworth today joined South Australian Transport Minister Patrick Conlon onsite to turn the first sod of the multimillion dollar project which will elevate Main Road over Victor Harbor Road.
“Once completed in 2013, the new overpass will significantly improve
safety for the almost 28,000 motorists and truck drivers who pass
through this junction each day, said Ms Rishworth.
“The overpass will be particularly beneficial for regular users of Main Road as it will make it easier for them to get on and off Victor Harbor Road.
“Importantly, this project is just one of many now occurring around the State as a direct result of the Federal Labor Government's unprecedented $2.4 billion investment in its road, rail and public transport infrastructure.”

Premier first to drive Airport Link Tunnel
Featured Article

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh became the first person to officially drive the Airport Link tunnel recently - underground from Bowen Hills to Toombul- marking a major milestone for the project.
Australia’s largest and most complex road infrastructure project is now more than 95 per cent complete with just five months of construction remaining.
The Premier said the Airport Link was the centrepiece of a massive $4.8 billion infrastructure investment on Brisbane’s Northside which will slash travel times for motorists.
“This is a significant moment in the history of Brisbane’s development,” Ms Bligh said.
“When Airport Link opens to motorists, drivers will be able to travel the 6.7 kilometres between Bowen Hills and Toombul in under five minutes*, avoiding 18 sets of traffic lights along the way.
“The toll road will add six lanes of new roadway under Lutwyche Road and four extra lanes between Kedron and Toombul. Motorists will be able to enter and exit the tunnel at Bowen Hills, Kedron and Toombul,” Ms Bligh said.

Plans to upgrade the Western Highway duplication between Ballarat and Stawell reached a major milestone today with a $152 million contract awarded for works on the divided highway section from Burrumbeet to Trawalla, a distance of approximately 23 km.
Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure and Transport and Member for Ballarat Catherine King and Victorian Minister for Roads Terry Mulder confirmed that John Holland would soon start works to complete a safer four-lane divided highway through to Trawalla.
Ms King welcomed this latest contract as the next major milestone in the duplication between Ballarat and Stawell.
"We are working in partnership with the Victorian Government to renew and expand our transport infrastructure to support the national economy, and to better connect people living and working in regional Victoria," Ms King said.

The newly built Crescent Head Road overpass has this week opened to traffic, another milestone in the delivery of the new, fully-Federally funded Kempsey Bypass which is on track to be completed 12 months early in mid-2013.
Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese said the completion of work on this overpass and the good progress being made on the bypass project as a whole is very pleasing.
“The opening of the Crescent Head Road overpass makes this the first section of the new bypass to become operational,” said Mr Albanese.
“The new overpass will provide locals and visitors alike with safe, convenient access to nearby areas including their homes, with further sections of the bypass to be progressively opened between now and mid 2013.”

WA remains the investment leader of the nation
Featured Article
More than $89.5billion worth of projects are currently under way in Western Australia, representing more than a quarter of all construction in the nation.
According to the Deloitte Access Economics December quarter 2011 Investment Monitor released today one third of all projects ‘committed to’ or ‘under consideration’ in the country are also in WA, valued at $140.1billion.
Treasurer Christian Porter said this pipeline of investment was up 30 per cent on the June 2011 quarter and highlighted the significant role WA played in securing the economic future of Australia.
“While we are not immune to the pressures of the global financial markets, Western Australia continues to lead the nation with solid investment growth,” Mr Porter said.
“Inclusive of all project status categories, the December quarter estimate is that WA has $267.2billion worth of current and potential projects, representing 29.3 per cent of the total investment committed to or under construction in the nation.”
Deloitte’s report also noted that mining projects accounted for 46 per cent of all investment under construction or committed to in Australia.
