Major works on CityLink and the Monash Freeway as part of the Brumby Labor Government’s $1.39 billion M1 Upgrade project are complete, with the additional inbound lane to fully open to traffic on Sunday, in time for return to school traffic next week.

Acting Premier Rob Hulls and Roads and Ports Minister Tim Pallas today announced that the additional lane on the Monash Freeway and CityLink, inbound from High Street to Burnley, would open this Sunday well ahead of its December target.

“The M1 Upgrade is a key part of the Brumby Labor Government’s plan to build a better transport system for Victoria, so people can spend less time in traffic and more time with family and friends,” Mr Hulls said.

Kimberley LNG precinct master plan released

Worth a Look

A Master Plan showing how the proposed Browse LNG precinct could be established, at a location 60km north of Broome, is now available to the public.

Premier Colin Barnett said the Master Plan accommodated the key LNG processing facilities and related activities for at least two proponents, producing a combined total of 50 million tonnes per annum of LNG, within a 2,500 hectare fenced land area and a further 1,000 hectare marine area for port and shipping.

“The Master Plan clearly demonstrates that we can develop the Browse LNG precinct, within a relatively restricted land area and with all but two kilometres of the nearby coastline remaining open to public access.” Mr Barnett said.

“While it provides a possible layout for the precinct, individual components will require specific environmental and Aboriginal heritage approvals before they can be built.”

Tugun Desalination Plant producing water as offshore works platform is permanently dismantled

Featured Article

The final works platform temporarily moored off Tugun will depart in coming days, Minister for Infrastructure and Planning Stirling Hinchliffe announced today.

Mr Hinchliffe said the platform, used to assist in marine works for the Tugun Desalination Plant, was no longer needed and would leave on Monday weather permitting.

He said the departure would follow the recommencement of water production at the plant where the major phase of final works has been completed. Water production ceased temporarily on June 4 to allow for final works prior to finalisation and handover in the second half of 2010. Finalisation of final works and handover is expected in coming weeks.

“The major phase of final works is complete, the Tugun Desalination Plant is again producing water and the large works platform visible from shore is scheduled to depart on Monday,’’ Mr Hinchliffe said.

The $564 million Northern Expressway will be officially declared open today – three months ahead of schedule despite the wet winter.

Transport Minister Patrick Conlon will be joined by Federal Member for Wakefield Nick Champion to cut the ribbon to open the 23-kilometre, $564m project.

“Today’s celebration acknowledges the support, patience and understanding of the local community during the construction of the Northern Expressway,” Minister Conlon said.

“The event also celebrates Adelaide’s north and heralds tomorrow’s opening to public traffic of South Australia’s newest and smoothest road - that puts us some three months ahead of schedule - which for an undertaking of this magnitude is a wonderful effort by all concerned.
