Port Botany Expansion Project
Worth A Look

Image Reference: Baulderstone Review Spring 2009
In 2005, Sydney Ports Corporation obtained Government approval for
the expansion of the existing port through reclamation of 60 hectares of
land. The expansion is being constructed adjacent to the existing
Patrick terminal and will provide significant additional capacity to
meet projected long-term trade growth.
Features of the expansion:
·
1,850
metres of additional wharf face for five extra shipping berths
·
60
hectares of reclaimed terminal land
·
deep
water berths with depths of up to 16.5 metres
·
dredging
of approximately 7.8 million cubic metres of fill material to create
shipping channels and berth boxes
·
dedicated road access to the new terminal area
·
additional rail sidings to provide rail access to the new terminal area
·
additional tug berths and facilities
·
rehabilitation and expansion of Penrhyn Estuary to create a secure
estuarine environment
·
community facilities including boat ramp, look outs, pathways
·
first
berths to be available for trade in 2012.

Major Project Facilitation Status: West Pilbara Iron Ore
Featured Article
I have granted Major Project Facilitation (MPF) status to the West Pilbara Iron Ore Project, underscoring the Rudd Labor Government's efforts to support the investment that will position Australia to take full advantage of the global recovery.
The $4 billion greenfield project aims to extract and commercialise 500 million tonnes of iron ore from the Pilbara. It will also involve the construction of a 275 kilometre heavy haulage railway and a new deepwater port at Anketell Point near Karratha, with the opportunity for third party access to both pieces of new infrastructure.

Thiess Services awarded $405M Contract for Hunter River Remediation Project
Featured Article
Thiess Services has been awarded a $405M contract from
BHP Billiton to undertake remediation works associated with the Hunter
River Remediation Project (HRRP). The HRRP involves the remediation of
river sediments affected by industrial activities of the former
Newcastle Steelworks at Mayfield, New South Wales. Completion of works
is scheduled for 2012.
Thiess Services has been involved with the project for over 12 months
with early works dredging already undertaken. For the next phase of
work, purpose-built facilities, located on the former steelworks site,
are being constructed to immobilise contaminants present in the
sediments. The material will then be encapsulated in specifically
designed containment cells being constructed by Thiess Services on
nearby Kooragang Island.
