Scienceworks Provides Inside Story On West Gate Bridge

today, providing a new and up-close view of one of Melbourne’s most
iconic structures.
Roads and Ports Minister Tim Pallas was joined by the Member for
Williamstown Wade Noonan to launch the exhibit today and said it was a
fitting legacy to the symbolic structure and to all those involved in
the original construction and the current strengthening project.
“The West Gate Bridge is now over 30 years old and is not only an
important link between the CBD and Melbourne’s west, but a prominent
feature of our city and state,” Mr Pallas said.
“This new Scienceworks exhibit is in the shadow of the bridge and
outlines the Brumby Labor Government’s strengthening project, which is
the biggest investment in the bridge since it was first built
by Victorian Government August 28 2010

On the 14 of August 2010, the eastern duplication bridge of the Gungahlin Drive Extension (GDE), over the Barton Highway, partially collapsed. The new bridge was under construction when it collapsed due to failure in the falsework.

Work on the $812 million South Road Superway is stepping up a notch following the request for tenders for preliminary service relocation works.
Infrastructure Minister Patrick Conlon said works to relocate essential services needed to be done before major construction could begin on the Superway – a joint Federal and State funded project.
“We are inviting companies experienced in service relocation work to submit a tender to move water and sewerage services, giving them the chance to play a part in the largest road project in South Australian history.”

$484 Million Berrybank Windfarm Approved

Planning Minister Justin Madden today approved three planning applications for the development of the $484 million Berrybank Wind Energy Facility south east of Lismore.
Speaking today at the Major Projects Conference in Melbourne, Mr Madden said he had accepted the recommendations of an independent panel and approved the project.
“The Berrybank Wind Energy Facility will include up to 99 wind generators producing up to 247.5 megawatts of electricity a year,” Mr Madden said.
“This is enough energy to power some 171,000 homes.”

Thiess’ Hunter Expressway contract finalised at $825 million

Preliminary design and construction costing has been completed on the eastern section of the Hunter Expressway Project in NSW with the contract finalised at $825 million.
The eastern section will be constructed by Thiess in alliance with Parsons Brinkerhoff (PB) and Hyder Consulting. The completed Expressway will cut travel times between Newcastle and the Hunter by 28 minutes.
At 13.3km long, the Alliance section will include a four-lane divided highway from the end of the Newcastle Link Road to Kurri Kurri in the Hunter Valley.
