Lend Lease
has developed a state-of-the-art interactive sustainability tool based
on green building solutions it has delivered around the world. The Green
Building Converter takes users on a journey providing information on the
environmental impact of the built environment while allowing choices to
be made to green new and existing buildings.
Unveiled at the Shanghai World Expo 2010, Lend Lease developed The Green
Building Converter as part of its Gold Sponsorship of the Australian
Pavilion – showcasing Australia’s innovation in design and environmental
technology.
The Green Building Converter demonstrates that through innovative
design, technologies and skills available today, the Expo’s theme of
‘Better Cities Better Life’ is achievable today.
Maria Atkinson, Global Head of Sustainability for Lend Lease says: “The
Green Building Converter identifies opportunities for new and existing
buildings, as well as city blocks, to be transformed into clean and
green icons. The tool educates by providing users with an understanding
of the design principles and technology innovation behind green
buildings and precincts.”
Australian Commissioner-General Lyndall Sachs said The Green Building
Converter was a great demonstration of Australia’s leadership in
sustainable design and development.
“The Green Building Converter is innovative and shows why Lend Lease has
a global green reputation. The Converter is already a well-received
element of the Australian Pavilion.
“Bovis
Lend Lease provided engineering design, project management and
construction services for the Australian Pavilion and delivered the
Pavilion on time and without environmental or safety incidents,” Ms
Sachs added.
The Green Building Converter demonstrates the environmental impact of
buildings in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption and
water demands. The Converter is consistent with international green
building certification schemes – being based on Lend Lease projects
which have received Green Star and Green Mark Certifications.
Australia is recognised as a leader in the development of world-class
green buildings and Lend Lease has been instrumental in this, having
delivered Australia’s first 5 Star Green Star and 6 Star Green Star
buildings, The Bond and The Gauge in Sydney and Melbourne respectively.
The Green Building Converter uses ‘green toolkits’ and ‘building
scenarios’ to provide the user with what is required to achieve a green
building or green city.
The Green Building Converter offers a totally interactive experience.
The user is prompted through a number of scenarios to discover the green
technologies that can be applied to both buildings and precincts to
reduce the impact of the built environment. They also learn about the
cost savings and other benefits that come from greening a building
through each scenario.
Ms Atkinson added: “The Green Building Converter assumptions are based
on real office, residential and retail buildings in Shanghai. We are
showing how our cities can become greener, leading to a better life for
those who live in them.”
The Green Building Converter is currently being showcased in the
Australia Pavilion at the Shanghai 2010 World Expo which opened
officially on 1 May. The Australia Pavilion has a number of green design
aspects as part of Lend Lease’s sponsorship contribution - including
solar panel heating, rainwater harvesting and energy saving smart
lighting and controls.
Lend Lease is proud to offer The Green Building Converter to co-sponsors
and partners of the Australian Pavilion for their program events and is
investigating opportunities to commercialise the tool.
