Coffey International Limited (“Coffey”) received a Gold Award and one Silver Highly Commended Award at the Consult Australia Awards for Excellence. The awards were announced at the recent Consult Australia annual dinner held in the Park Hyatt, Melbourne.

The Awards recognise outstanding achievement by Consult Australia Member Firms and provide the opportunity for firms to demonstrate the design skills and technical excellence of their professional staff in project and service delivery.

Coffey managing director Roger Olds said he was delighted that the specialist knowledge and commitment Coffey brings to projects had, again, been recognised by Consult Australia and the engineering industry.

“It is great to be recognised by the industry for the specialist skills we have and all the hard work our people put in to make a difference in the community.”

Coffey was awarded:

The Nias Reconstruction Program helped the reconstruction and recovery of South Nias following the devastating effects of the 2004 tsunami and 2005 earthquakes. The program included re-establishing small scale community infrastructure, increasing the community’s ability to manage small scale infrastructure maintenance and restoring sub-district office facilities and functions.

The program helped over 100 villages, either directly or indirectly, and constructed nine local government offices. The project also focused on training local communities in building methods, use of machinery and aspects of construction and contract management to give them the skills and confidence they needed to handle the reconstruction work themselves.

Mr Olds said: “This is the second Consult Australia Gold Award Coffey International Development has received since 2008 which reflects our dedication to excellence in providing international development.”

Commenting on Coffey Geotechnics winning the Silver Award for the Southern Hume duplication project, Mr Olds said: “I am pleased our specialist knowledge was recognised in this project. We achieved great outcomes in a tight timeframe and left a legacy of skills in the local community.”

The Northern Hume Alliance project involved duplication of four sections of the Hume Highway. It was the first major project delivered to the Roads and Traffic Authority of NSW through an alliance. The project significantly improved road safety and provided employment for a large number of local residents.
