On Friday 27 August Arup’s Dominic Carter was named 2010 WA Project Manager of the Year at the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) WA Chapter Gala Awards Dinner. The judging panel praised Dominic for his work on the Building the Education Revolution (BER) project – part of the Australian Government’s $42bn Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan.

The BER project is an Australian Federal Government stimulus program designed to support the construction industry by undertaking maintenance, refurbishment projects and the construction of new buildings for all primary schools in Australia. In Western Australia Arup’s ongoing role involves managing, coordinating and delivering new buildings at 85 schools and refurbishments at 105 schools for Building Management and Works in Perth's Canning District.

In support of the AIPM award, an architect also closely involved in BER commented: “Dominic is an astute lateral thinker, well versed with the requirements of the project he is managing, and possesses notable leadership skills which he uses to harness his team's ideas for the best project outcome and successful delivery.”

Dominic will now compete against the other state and territory winners at the national finals. The national winners will be announced at the AIPM annual national conference in October 2010
