Australian Precast Solutions produces two of Australia’s longest bridge beams

Australian Precast Solutions’ precast facility in Macksville in northern NSW has produced two monster bridge beams for a major motorway upgrade in Queensland.

The two Super T beams were cast at the beginning of August and are 42.6 metres long from end to end and have a depth of 1.8 metres. Each beam weighs approximately 90 tonnes. Standard beams of this depth are usually 35 or 38 metres long and their weight is approx 75 to 80 tonnes.

Bogdan Gregory, Australian Precast Solutions Precast Manager, said, “These two bridge beams are the longest we’ve produced at our Macksville precast facility and I’m not aware of any longer ones being produced elsewhere.

“Our high capacity facility and heavy cranes allow us to manufacture and handle a product of this size. We manufacture bridge beams in a daily cycle. Approximately 16 hours after concreting, the product is lifted out of the mould and transported to the storage area.”

The two manufactured Super T beams will be used for a pedestrian bridge for Goodna State School as part of the Dinmore to Goodna Ipswich Motorway Upgrade project being carried out by Origin Alliance for the Queensland Department of Main Roads. They were transported to Queensland on Sunday 15 August with a police heavy load escort.

An even longer Super T beam is scheduled to be produced for the same bridge later in the year – this one will measure approximately 43 metres.

Australian Precast Solutions Pty Ltd is a fully owned subsidiary of Abigroup Ltd. The company was created in 2008 to supply high-quality precast products to the construction industry.
