Arup has been appointed by the Public Transport Ticketing Corporation of NSW and the Pearl Consortium as Independent Certifier for the new electronic ticketing system (ETS) for greater Sydney.

The ETS will support multiple modes of transport in the greater Sydney region including trains, government and private buses and government ferries.

The integrated ticketing system will improve passengers' public transport experience by providing a simple and convenient way to pay for travel, reducing the length of time it takes to purchase tickets, in turn reducing total travel times. The ETS will also produce better travel data to assist operators plan the delivery of transport services.

The successful rollout of Sydney's ETS will require a series of engineering, IT, business, organisational and operational design aspects to be addressed. “Few other companies have the necessary depth and breadth of experience covering the range of disciplines involved in delivering this critical role” explains Arup Project Director, Steve Lennon.

A consortium of partners will work together to deliver the $1.2bn ETS, with a planned roll out commencing before the end of 2012.
