Designs for new north and south schools revealed

16 January 2020

The Marshall Liberal Government is forging ahead with its record capital works investment into the state’s education system, with concept designs for two new Birth to Year 12 (B-12) schools in Aldinga and Angle Vale revealed today.

The construction of both schools is part of the Government’s $1.3 billion education capital works program, which is set to support thousands of jobs across the state, and forms part of the biggest investment into improving education services by any state government in South Australia’s history.

It is expected that around 900 jobs will be created in the construction industry across both school builds.

Education Minister John Gardner said that local families will be excited by the design concepts, which showcase two world-class, modern learning environments.

“These new schools will cater for the growing demand for public education in the north and south of Adelaide and will provide welcome relief for surrounding schools experiencing enrolment demand,” said Minister Gardner.

“Families in the north and south of Adelaide will be pleased to have a state-of-the-art school in their local area by 2022.

“Both new schools will provide modern learning environments that have strong connections between internal and external learning spaces, with a strong focus on STEM to help educate students for the jobs of the future.

“The schools’ design will deliver the best value to the state in terms of cost and innovative design that meets the quality standards we demand for all our new government school builds.

“The open design of the schools will also welcome community use, making them true community assets that local families will have access to for years to come.

“This Government is committed to delivering world class education and we are delivering a record investment into education, which includes a $1.3 billion capital works program that will provide a boost to the state’s economy and create thousands of jobs statewide.”

Located at 143 Port Road, Aldinga, and 23 Riverbanks Road, Angle Vale, each school will accommodate up to 1675 students, including 100 inclusive places for students with a disability and a 75 place children’s centre.

Construction is scheduled to commence early this year, with the schools opening in Term 1, 2022.

Following a comprehensive procurement process, TESA Education comprising of Tetris Capital, DIF Capital Partners, Sarah Constructions and ISS Facilities Services has been awarded the contract to construct and maintain the two new schools.

Adelaide-based Sarah Constructions will manage the design and construction aspects of the project for both schools, engaging local sub-contractors and suppliers to deliver the build.

Swanbury Penglase and Perumal Pedovali are the architects who have been engaged in the design.
