John Holland is excited to be delivering a major upgrade of the Bruce Highway between Edmonton and Gordonvale, to make travelling safer and more reliable, and improve flood resilience for North Queensland.
John Holland will deliver the design and construction of the $481M project on behalf of Queensland Transport & Main Roads, as part of the HSA Consortium with Seymour Whyte and AECOM.
CEO Joe Barr said the Edmonton to Gordonvale project was a much-needed infrastructure investment in the future of Far North Queensland.
“I am so proud of our team for securing this important highway upgrade. This project will create huge benefits for people travelling along the busiest section of the Bruce Highway between Brisbane and Cairns – by cutting congestion, and making their trips safer,” Mr Barr said.
Executive General Manager QLD/NT/NZ Infrastructure Rob Evans said the 10.5km upgrade included duplication of all existing two-lane sections of the highway to four lanes, new service roads, rail realignment and new road and rail bridges.
“We are excited to get started on this game-changing project for Far North Queensland, drawing on John Holland’s significant experience in road and rail construction,” Mr Evans said.
“Hundreds of new jobs will be created by this project, supercharging opportunities for locals wanting to work in the booming infrastructure sector.”
Within the roads sector, John Holland is currently building the West Gate Tunnel in Melbourne and the Westconnex Rozelle Interchange project in Sydney. The company recently successfully delivered Sydney’s Westconnex New M4 tunnels on time and on budget.
In Queensland, the company is currently delivering the Queensland Urban Utilities Regional Treatment Program, the Sunshine Coast Airport Expansion project and the North West Private Hospital expansion in Brisbane.
