John Holland Continues To Make Melbourne Communities Safer

John Holland will continue to make Melbourne communities safer and easier to move around by removing dangerous level crossings at Bell Street, Reynard Street and Munro Street in Coburg and Moreland Road in Brunswick on behalf of the Victorian Government.
The North Western Program Alliance, comprising John Holland, Level Crossing Removal Project, Kellogg Brown Root and Metro Trains Melbourne, has been awarded the contract to deliver the Bell to Moreland project that involves the removal of four level crossings and elevating the rail line over the road.
“We are pleased to be delivering another project in the Victorian Government’s important program to remove 75 dangerous and congested level crossings by 2025,” John Holland Executive General Manager VIC/SA/TAS Struan Collins said.
“The project will improve liveability by providing more predictable commutes for locals and delivering benefits like more open spaces and improved connectivity to public transport in the way of new cycle paths and pedestrian links.”
Early engagement with the community has informed the design of the project and extra emphasis is being placed on maintaining the heritage significance of the area with our team working closely with Heritage Victoria.
Construction will begin later this year with all four level crossings due to be removed in 2020 and project completion scheduled for 2021.
The Bell to Moreland project joins other projects successfully delivered by the North Western Program Alliance including the level crossing removals at Skye Road, Frankston, Camp Road in Campbellfield and Buckley Street in Essendon and the Frankston Station upgrade. The High Street Reservoir level crossing removal is well underway with the crossing to be removed by Christmas.
