Call for SPIRE Project’s delivery partner

19 November 2019

The ACT Government invites expressions of interest for the delivery of the SPIRE Project, the new state-of-the-art emergency, surgical and critical healthcare facility at Canberra Hospital.

The health of Canberrans will always be a key priority for the ACT Government and we are getting on with the job of expanding the services available at Canberra Hospital to meet the needs of our growing and ageing city.

The almost 40,000sqm addition to the hospital campus will deliver more operating rooms, emergency treatment spaces and intensive care beds.

Following a successful industry briefing last month, attended by key constructors, designers and other experts from across industry, we are now calling for expressions of interest from potential delivery partners.

The SPIRE Project will be procured under an early contractor involvement model. Under this approach, the contractor will work collaboratively with the Territory to design and deliver the project – jointly identifying opportunities to improve design outcomes, optimise constructability and deliver whole-of-life cost efficiencies.

“The SPIRE Project presents a unique opportunity for industry to be part of one of the largest health infrastructure projects ever undertaken by the ACT Government,” said Minister Stephen-Smith.

“The call for the project’s potential design and construction partners represents the first phase of the procurement process and is the exciting next step in the delivery of Canberra Hospital’s new state-of-the-art emergency, surgical and critical healthcare facility.

“Through the collaborative early contractor involvement procurement model, we will work with our chosen partner to achieve excellence in design; teaming the latest advances in technology and construction to enhance the quality of healthcare available to all Canberrans.

“Ongoing consultation with clinicians, consumers and local residents will be a critical part of the process over the course of 2020, to ensure we deliver the best possible outcome for the Canberra community,” said Minister Stephen-Smith.

Expressions of interest close on Thursday 19 December 2019, with the Territory’s delivery partner to be appointed mid next year.
