Construction is well underway on Walker Corporation’s Adelaide Festival Square Development in the heart of the Riverbank Precinct. Under the management of Tier One civil contractor Delta Group, excavation of the basement and five-level, 1,500 space carpark is well underway with the main earthwork programme expected for completion late September 2019.

With preparatory works in motion, the tender process for the carpark has commenced with the Head Contractor to be announced later this year and construction to commence shortly after.

“We’re very pleased with how work is progressing,” said Walker Corporation’s Chairman Lang Walker. “We’re looking forward to appointing a builder for the car park and commencing the next phase of this exciting project,” he added.

Excavation statistics to date:

Creating a new city centre for Adelaide, the project will feature a 5,000 square metre city square, commercial tower with 40,000 square metres of premium office space and a dynamic precinct of cafes, restaurants and luxury retail outlets – serviced by the new underground carpark.

As work on the Festival Square redevelopment scales up, Walker Corporation has added to its South Australian team with Ian Tan coming on as Senior Project Manager. Ian has more than 25 years of experience in the industry, working throughout the Asia Pacific region and here in Australia.

“He has particular experience with delivering large and complex projects so we’re very pleased to have him join our team as we work towards delivering a fantastic outcome at Festival Square,” said Mr Walker.

Festival Square is a key part of Walker’s $3 billion development portfolio in South Australia including Riverlea, the 12,000 lot master planned community at Buckland Park and Vicinity, Adelaide’s largest industrial estate, located at Direk.

It will create a vibrant entertainment precinct linking the Adelaide Festival Centre, the Adelaide Convention Centre, the railway station and SkyCity Casino, while also becoming a gathering and meeting place for crowds going to and from events at Adelaide Oval.
