Leading global engineering and consulting firm Golder has been engaged by WestWind Energy to deliver geotechnical and environmental engineering and consulting services for the proposed 1GW Golden Plains Wind Farm.

Located to the West, South and South West of Rokewood, within the Shire of Golden Plains, approximately 60 km North West of Geelong, Australia, Golden Plains Wind Farm will consist of up to 228, 3-5 MW wind turbines. The project will generate over 3500 GWh per annum of clean electricity, enough to power more than 500,000 homes – and prevent more than 3.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from being emitted to the atmosphere each year. When completed, Golden Plains Wind Farm is set to become the Southern Hemisphere’s largest wind farm.

WestWind Energy Managing Director, Tobias Geiger, said: “The Golden Plains Wind Farm will make a significant contribution to Australia’s transition to a clean energy future. This project will also make a huge difference to the community, with many local jobs created during construction and operation as well as providing drought-proof income to 40 host landholders.”

“We’re delighted to be working with the Golden Plains Wind Farm team for such an important project that will support local communities and make a positive contribution to the environment,” said Andrew Russell, Principal and Regional Leader for Golder in Victoria.

Operating in Australia for 50 years, Golder has been delivering engineering and environmental consulting services to enable the development and construction of major renewable energy projects and support Australia’s energy market transition to greater proportions of variable renewable energy sources and reliable storage solutions. These include a range of projects such as Dundonnell Wind Farm in Victoria, Coppabella Wind Farm in New South Wales, Agnew Mine Renewable Energy Project in Western Australia, Lincoln Gap Wind Farm and Goat Hill pumped-hydro project in South Australia.
