Location revealed for new school in the north

20 August 2019

The Marshall Liberal Government’s record investment in education has reached another milestone with 14 hectares of land on Riverbanks Road in Angle Vale earmarked as the location for the new birth to year 12 school in Adelaide’s north.

The State Government’s $1.3 billion worth of capital projects will deliver state-of-the-art educational facilities across South Australia, including the new birth to year 12 school in the north of Adelaide.

“The record investment in education underpins the Marshall Government’s determination to improve education outcomes for South Australian students,” said Minister for Education John Gardner.

“The new state-of-the-art school is good news for families in the local community and will address population growth which otherwise would have placed enrolment pressure on surrounding schools.

“Careful consideration has been given to the school’s location with respect to residential development and the significant population growth the north is experiencing.

“The new school’s proximity to industry, defence and agriculture will enhance the range of opportunities student will have to engage with local businesses.

“The curriculum will focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) studies to place the students in the best position to secure the jobs of the future.”

The Angle Vale site was selected following an extensive feasibility process by the State Government.

The new school will be built as part of a Public Private Partnership (PPP) and ready for the start of the 2022 school year.

It will cater for the growing demand for public education in the area, accommodating up to 1675 students, including 100 inclusive places for students with disability and a 75 place children’s centre.

It is one of three new schools set to be built across the state, with a new Whyalla 7-12 high school and new southern suburbs school also opening in 2022.

The location for the new birth to year 12 school in the south was announced earlier this year along Quinliven and Port Roads in Aldinga.

The concept design for the schools will be available to the public by early 2020 after the successful proponent has been awarded a contract later this year.
