Safer And More Reliable Travel For Sydney Motorists Using The New M4 Tunnels

Sydney motorists can look forward to safer and more reliable journeys with the opening of the WestConnex New M4 Tunnels.
John Holland CEO Joe Barr thanked the people who have worked on this transformational project since construction started in 2016.
“We are so proud to have delivered the first underground section of one of Australia’s largest road infrastructure projects, which will take 10,000 trucks off Parramatta Road every day and ensure a safer and quicker journey through Sydney for motorists,” Mr Barr said.
“Our team has worked tirelessly to deliver these tunnels, which will save motorists hours of travel each week.
“This was a complex project with a simple goal – a safer, better connected Sydney. Everyone involved in the success of WestConnex, and their loved ones, deserves our thanks for the effort, the hours and the dedication they gave to this project.”
John Holland built the WestConnex New M4 Tunnels, twin 5.5km tunnels that run under Sydney’s inner west, allowing motorists to skip 22 traffic lights on Parramatta Road and save up to 20 minutes of travel time every day.
The project created more than 4,000 direct and indirect jobs and allowed about 190 apprentices and trainees to get a start in the infrastructure industry.
The opening of the New M4 Tunnels comes only weeks after the successful completion of the North West Metro by John Holland. Together these projects will change the face of Sydney for the better for generations to come.
John Holland is currently also building the Rozelle Interchange, the missing link of the WestConnex motorway, which is set to open in 2023. The M4-M5 Link Rozelle Interchange will connect the extended M4 and the New M5 to the Anzac Bridge and Victoria Rd. It will also provide for a connection to the proposed Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link project.
