CEO Joe Barr said John Holland was excited to start work on the landmark Victorian Heart Hospital after the final contracts were signed.

“This state-of-the-art facility will lead the way in caring for heart patients, bringing together treatment, medical research and training under one roof,” Mr Barr said.

“We are committed to transforming lives through our projects, and we will ensure we create a facility that delivers the best patient outcomes possible for years to come.”

When fully-developed, the world-class facility will be able to perform 2,150 cardiac surgeries and 13,000 cardiac laboratory procedures each year, as well as catering for 28,300 cardiac emergency presentations and 108,000 consultations.

Executive General Manager – Building, David Lehmann said work will begin in coming months, and would create more than 1,700 jobs during construction.

“This hospital will raise the bar for patient-centred design in Australian hospital construction, and we couldn’t be more excited to start work on this life-saving facility,” Mr Lehmann said.

The cutting-edge design of the hospital incorporates light-filled interiors and a strong connection to outdoor spaces, with wellbeing and healing as its focus.

The building’s environmental impact will also be minimised by utilising the natural climate conditions to enable resilient and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, whilst also lowering the building’s carbon footprint through using locally-sourced materials.
