Georgiou welcomes new General Manager – Engineering

Georgiou is pleased to announce the
appointment of Simon Welfare to the role of General Manager –
Engineering.
Mr Welfare will be supported by the transition of Peter Hopfmueller in
the role of Construction Director who will be responsible for the
management of our key government clients in
WA such as
Main
Roads
WA and the
Public Transport Authority.
Mr Welfare joins the company from
Laing O’Rourke, where he has spent the
past four years as General Manager of their Western Region operations
across Western Australia and the
Northern Territory.
Bringing more than 20 years’ construction experience to the role, Mr
Welfare’s leadership experience includes the successful delivery of
major public infrastructure
road and
rail projects, along with extensive experience working for blue chip
clients such as
BHP Billiton,
Chevron,
Rio Tinto and
Alcoa.
Chief Executive Officer Rob Monaci said a key focus for Georgiou’s
engineering business is to capitalise on the
mining and resources projects currently on offer in WA.
“In recent years, Simon’s experience extends to the successful delivery
of major
LNG projects such as Gorgon, Wheatstone and Ichthys along with
major infrastructure projects such as Northlink Stage 2 and the Stadium
Rail Project,” he explained.
Simon holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from the
University of
Western Australia and has also worked on some of WA’s biggest mining
projects such as Jimblebar, Yandi and Cape Lambert.
Simon will commence the role in early July 2019.
