Georgiou welcomes new General Manager – Engineering

03 June 2019

Georgiou is pleased to announce the appointment of Simon Welfare to the role of General Manager – Engineering.

Mr Welfare will be supported by the transition of Peter Hopfmueller in the role of Construction Director who will be responsible for the management of our key government clients in WA such as Main Roads WA and the Public Transport Authority.

Mr Welfare joins the company from Laing O’Rourke, where he has spent the past four years as General Manager of their Western Region operations across Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

Bringing more than 20 years’ construction experience to the role, Mr Welfare’s leadership experience includes the successful delivery of major public infrastructure road and rail projects, along with extensive experience working for blue chip clients such as BHP Billiton, Chevron, Rio Tinto and Alcoa.

Chief Executive Officer Rob Monaci said a key focus for Georgiou’s engineering business is to capitalise on the mining and resources projects currently on offer in WA.

“In recent years, Simon’s experience extends to the successful delivery of major LNG projects such as Gorgon, Wheatstone and Ichthys along with major infrastructure projects such as Northlink Stage 2 and the Stadium Rail Project,” he explained.

Simon holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from the University of Western Australia and has also worked on some of WA’s biggest mining projects such as Jimblebar, Yandi and Cape Lambert.

Simon will commence the role in early July 2019.
