METRONETís Thornlie-Cockburn Link and Yanchep Rail Extension tender reaches next phase

16 April 2019

Two construction consortiums have proceeded to the next stage of the tender process to build the METRONET Thornlie-Cockburn Link (TCL) and Yanchep Rail Extension (YRE) projects.

METROconnex (Coleman Rail, Clough and Georgiou Group) and NEWest Alliance (CPB Contractors and Downer) will now be required to provide a detailed bid indicating how they plan to construct the projects, before a contract to the successful bidder is awarded in late 2019.

The two projects will be delivered under one package as part of a bundled competitive alliance model, with both to be built by the successful alliance team.

More than 3,000 jobs are expected to be created over both projects, with the decision to bundle the projects expected to deliver better value for money.

The 17.5 kilometre TCL project will link the Thornlie and Cockburn Central train stations, and build two new stations at Ranford Road and Nicholson Road.

The YRE is a 14.5 kilometre project to extend the Joondalup Line from Butler to Yanchep, with new stations at Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep.

Construction is expected to begin this year.

Comments attributed to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"This is an exciting milestone for METRONET, and shows real progress towards making these projects a reality for Western Australians.

"The two projects will transform the way people in our suburbs access the public transport network.

"We are creating new links to the far northern suburbs of Perth and giving eastern and southern suburban residents other options - including better links to jobs - than the existing radial rail links into the city.

"I look forward to being able to announce the preferred consortium later this year, which will stimulate thousands of jobs throughout the supply chain.

"In the meantime, we have a range of road and cycling projects underway across the northern and southern suburbs to better serve our growing communities."
