‘Preferred tenderer’ a major milestone for Queen’s Wharf
26 April 2019
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said
the appointment of
Multiplex, as the “preferred tenderer” for
Queen’s
Wharf
Brisbane was a major milestone for
Queensland’s tourism industry.
“Our priority is jobs and this project provides thousands - in
construction and in operating this city changing development,” the
Premier said.
“And it flows through the entire economy with demand for goods and
services for decades to come.”
Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said Queen’s Wharf
would change the face of
Brisbane and create opportunities for locals.
“Today’s announcement means we’re one step closer to delivering the
biggest tourism project
Queensland has ever seen,” she said.
“It’s also great for those looking for work in the
construction industry
– especially concreters, formworkers and foundations specialists.
“Queen’s Wharf will create 10,000
jobs in Brisbane. But we know at peak
construction, more than 2000 workers will be required on site.”
Works, initially foundations and footings, will start in mid-2019 with
construction works expected to reach the George Street-level in
late-2020 and the first stage of the IRD ready for completion in
late-2022.
“This is great news for Queensland’s construction industry and a boon
for Brisbane – because we know when our construction industry is
booming, so is our economy,” Ms Jones said.
“We also know Queen’s Wharf will bring an extra 1.39 million visitors to
Brisbane each year. This will have a great flow-on effect for regional
tourism.”
The $3.6 billion development, which cover more than 26 hectares, will
transform into a breathtaking and vibrant oasis for locals and visitors.
Queen’s Wharf Brisbane will revitalise the city’s forgotten heritage
buildings and deliver striking landmark architecture, including the
Neville Bonner Pedestrian Bridge connecting to South Bank.
