Mcconnell Dowell awarded contract for Jane street, Penrith as part of the Mulgoa road / Castlereagh road upgrade

28 November 2018

McConnell Dowell: McConnell Dowell is pleased to announce the award to upgrade the busy Mulgoa Road corridor between Union Road and Museum Drive including upgrade of Mulgoa Road intersections with Jane Street and High Street in Penrith.

This Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) project, which is being funded by the Australian and NSW governments, is an important development for the Western Sydney community as on completion it will ease congestion, improve access to public and active transport, and increase road capacity to cater for future growth.

Key elements of the scope include widening of roads, upgrading signalling, building new pedestrian/cycle paths and realigning existing utility services.

A key challenge of the project is widening of the existing rail bridge over Castlereagh Road. Our key success factor in winning the contract was an innovative solution focused on minimising disruption to the community.

By offering a proven, alternative bridge installation method, the company was able to demonstrate clear benefits in program, cost and safety, whilst mitigating risk, reducing rail possessions and increasing confidence in achieving critical project milestones.

In announcing the award, McConnell Dowell’s Managing Director - Jim Frith said the award was a further demonstration of its abilities as the Creative Construction company. He continued…

“We are very pleased to continue our relationship with RMS. This project helps us achieve our objectives of increasing our presence in the NSW and Transport markets. We look forward to meeting and exceeding all of RMS’ objectives and improving the lives of those who live in or travel through this area of Sydney.”

Construction will commence in December 2018 with project completion due in late 2020.
