Consult Australia: The industry association for consulting firms in the built environment, Consult Australia, has welcomed the ACT Government’s appointment of an Acting Chief Engineer to help shape the scope and role prior to a fulltime appointment.

Minister for Planning and Land Management, Mick Gentleman MLA has announced the appointment of Mr George Tomlins, who has extensive experience in government and major infrastructure programs.

Megan Motto, Chief Executive of Consult Australia said: “We welcome this as an interim step to help shape and define the role in preparation for the appointment of a full time Chief Engineer to deliver high level strategic engineering advice to government.”

ACT’s ability to efficiently connect people to places and products to markets is critical for continued economic growth. The Chief Engineer will not only be a key adviser to the Government on infrastructure planning, but must also play a leading role in helping the ACT Government become a more informed purchaser.”

The Chief Engineer will be a critical conduit between government and industry to promote greater collaboration and innovation in project delivery.

Ms Motto said, “Consult Australia will be looking to the Chief Engineer to promote a culture of model client behaviour across the ACT government. It is vitally important that the Government demonstrates its commitment to a healthy and competitive consulting sector, as we work together to deliver the right infrastructure outcomes for the people and businesses of the ACT.”
