Green light for Subiaco’s new Inner City College

05 July 2018

WA Government: The new Inner City College in Subiaco has been given the official go-ahead with development approval granted for stage one of the project.

The future 2,000-student school is a key element of plans to transform Subi East into a vibrant new education, leisure, residential and community destination on the fringe of the Perth central business district.

The first stage of the school includes health and physical education, technologies and science, and student services, with a cafeteria, library and lecture theatres.

Spaces for socialising and recreation are integrated throughout with sporting hard courts, an amphitheatre and landscaped courtyards. The school's location will also encourage active modes of transport for students and staff.

Forward works are progressing well at the school's iconic location next to Subiaco Oval, with construction of the state-of-the-art secondary facility due to commence next month.

Planning studies are continuing for the broader Subi East project area to investigate options for the delivery of new and diverse housing supply close to existing transport and community infrastructure.

Comments attributed to Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:

"The college will be a focal point of the new Subi East precinct, which will also deliver new mixed-use development, diverse housing supply and improved community amenities through shared use of the Subiaco Oval playing field.

"We will see more families moving into the area to take advantage of the Inner City College and make the most of new opportunities to work, live and learn in key activity corridors.

"The revitalisation of Subi East will honour the area's rich heritage, help create hundreds of jobs through development and ultimately bring more residents to the area to support existing businesses and stimulate the local economy."

Comments attributed to Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

"This exciting new educational facility has been designed by leading architects to make the most of its premier location, and will provide much needed enrolment relief for secondary schools in the inner and western suburbs.

"Families in the area will have a brand new school with world-class facilities to deliver an exciting and innovative education for 21st century learners."
