Delivering a $13.9 billion Infrastructure Pipeline
20 July 2018
Tasmanian Government:
The Hodgman Liberal Government is
delivering on our commitment to build the infrastructure our growing
state needs with the first ever detailed 10-year
Infrastructure
Pipeline.
This Pipeline clearly maps-out planned infrastructure development over
the next decade, from which medium to long-term private investment and
employment decisions can be made.
To be updated each year, the initial Tasmanian Infrastructure Pipeline
includes 247 vital projects, each valued at $5 million or more, and
totalling a combined $13.9 billion over the 10 years of the pipeline. In
addition, $4.1 billion in private construction projects and $8.1 billion
in horizon projects have been identified.
These infrastructure projects will help to further underpin the growth
of our economy, support thousands of
jobs, boost business confidence and
support our growing population.
With infrastructure expenditure in
Tasmania expected to top $1.5 billion this financial year alone, it
is important that we take a long term co-ordinated approach.
Developed by Infrastructure Tasmania, the pipeline provides governments,
investors, developers, employers, businesses and communities with a
long-term view of key projects that are underway or on the table.
It includes economic infrastructure that helps us grow and prosper such
as
roads,
rail, energy,
water and sewerage, irrigation, stormwater,
ports, airports and communications, as well as the social
infrastructure that forms the basis of our society and communities like
public housing, schools, hospital and prisons.
By the end of the year
Infrastructure Tasmania will also release a
30-year Tasmanian Infrastructure Strategy based on emerging demographic,
social and technological trends, to help deliver infrastructure at the
right time, in the right place and on the right scale.
The Hodgman Liberal Government recognises that infrastructure projects
require considered consultation, planning and design, and that they
can’t be delivered overnight but by taking a strategic approach we can
ensure Tasmania remains the best place to live, work and raise a family.
