WA Government:
The State Government has announced the successful
conclusion of the
Middleton Beach Hotel Operator Expression of Interest
(EOI) process.
Submissions were received from high calibre local, national and
international hotel chains that see an opportunity in a future
hotel
proposed for Albany's popular seaside tourist destination.
The strategy to approach operators prior to seeking interest from
developers is part of a raft of measures introduced by
LandCorp and the
City of Albany to make the site as attractive as possible to private
investors.
The success of the Hotel Operator EOI is an encouraging sign and the
project partners remain cautiously optimistic about efforts to secure a
hotel developer.
The Hotel Operator EOI process was managed by specialist global agency
CBRE Hotels, appointed by LandCorp.
The submitting hotel chains cannot be named at this stage, as any
company participating in the forthcoming developer EOI must be given the
opportunity to progress discussions with potential operators at their
discretion.
The next stage will be an EOI process to find a hotel developer, which
will be announced in the near future.
Comments attributed to Lands Minister Rita Saffioti:
"Finding big brand names that are interested in managing the day-to-day
operations of a potential 80-140 room hotel at Middleton Beach is a
tremendous outcome, one that will certainly help efforts to secure a
quality developer.
"When we go out with a formal Hotel Developer EOI, likely mid-2018, we
will be able to present interested developers with a choice of
recognised hotel chain operators looking to expand their business to
Albany should a quality hotel be developed.
"The success of the Hotel Operator EOI is a clear indication quality
hotel chains see benefit in operating at the site. We hope this instils
greater confidence amongst developers and encourages a competitive
outcome when the site goes to market."
Comments attributed to Albany MLA Peter Watson:
"The calibre of hotel operators reaffirms what an attractive development
opportunity the Middleton Beach site is for a quality hotel development.
"The interest shown from these hotel operators is a great indicator that
this project will boost our local economy, provide local jobs, and
benefit our tourism sector."
