A breath of fresh air for Circular Quay Tower
18 June 2018
Lendlease:
A range of innovative measures – including
providing occupants 50 per cent more fresh air than
building codes
require – has helped the yet-to-be constructed
Circular Quay Tower earn
Sydney’s first ever Platinum
WELL Core and Shell pre-certification
rating.
WELL is a performance-based system for measuring, certifying and
monitoring features of
buildings that impact the health of occupants.
To achieve Platinum status, developments require multiple features that
meet WELL’s standards covering air, water, nourishment, light, fitness,
comfort, mind and innovation.
Circular Quay Tower is connected to two train stations and
Sydney’s main ferry wharf. This accessibility will be supported by
first-class end-of-trip facilities for office workers, comprising about
1,200 lockers, over 450 bicycle racks, showers and change rooms. The
project is also targeting a 4 Star NABERS Water rating, including rain
water harvesting and high efficiency fixtures & fittings.
Circular Quay Tower’s biophilic design – which refers to design that
reflects the natural world – is another feature recognised under the
rating. The exterior building design imitates the form of a tree.
Occupants will enjoy a further connection to nature with views of Sydney
Harbour and a focus on natural light.
The achievement follows
International Towers Sydney at Barangaroo South
becoming the first in the world to be awarded WELL Certification for
Core & Shell at the Platinum level, the highest certification available.
Nearly 15 million square metres have been registered and/or certified
internationally since WELL launched in 2014. Today, Australia boasts the
third highest number of projects registered and certified
internationally, including in square metres, behind the US and China.

“More and more, tenants are seeking out workplaces that support a
healthy environment. This new WELL certification for Circular Quay
Tower, the first in Sydney for a yet to be constructed project,
demonstrates we’re well on the way to delivering a building that will
achieve just this.
