BGC: Leading national
mining and
construction firm BGC Contracting Pty Ltd has reinforced its focus on
the application of
technology to improve project delivery through the appointment of
Ben Willey in the newly created role of General Manager – Technology
Acceleration.
Mr Willey will drive the Company’s continued strategic commitment to the
rapid adoption and deployment of process
automation and
digital
technologies. He joins BGC Contracting having spent the past 20 years
with global mining services provider Thiess in a variety of roles
including General Manager – Technology Systems, and is a highly
experienced manager and proven innovator within the open cut
mining sector.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Willey said part of the attraction of
the role with BGC Contracting was the fact the Company had previously
demonstrated its willingness to embrace the challenges and opportunities
of integrating technological advances across its equipment fleet and
process systems.
“I look forward to accelerating this transformation in BGC Contracting’s
technology capability to ensure that we achieve superior outcomes for
the business and continue to deliver for our clients in the most
efficient manner possible,” he said.
BGC Contracting CEO Greg Heylen said the creation of a specific General
Manager role to lead technology acceleration was the next logical step
in embedding innovation within the core business culture, systems and
strategy.
“Attracting a highly-credentialed candidate like Ben to this leadership
role is testimony to the strong early work carried out by the BGC
Contracting team in the adoption of leading-edge technology,
particularly our work around automation with a global original equipment
manufacturer,” Mr Heylen said.
Mr Willey commenced his new role on 16 April and is based in the
Company’s
Brisbane office.
