Cardno helps source location for Tesla expansion plans in Sydney

27 March 2018

Cardno: Our Planning Team in Sydney has been working alongside Tesla, the electric vehicle (EV) arm of the business in recent months to identify and secure a suitable site for the expansion of EVs into the Sydney market.

Prior to the preparation of a development application, Cardno undertook a due diligence to identify suitable sites. Four possible sites were shortlisted. The key criteria include an on-the-market site that is located within a land use zone that permits the storage and servicing of vehicles, is situated within Alexandria and/or Zetland within the City of Sydney, and has a minimum of 10,000m2 in extent, preferably with an office component.

The preferred site, located in the heart of the light industrial area of Alexandria with convenient access to the port and potential customers, is intended to house, service and re-charge vehicles. The use of the site has been approved by the City of Sydney and is likely to commence operation mid-2018.

Additional EVs and charging infrastructure in Sydney is a welcome prospect. EVs contribute to reducing emissions and assist in moving society into a sustainable non-fossil fuel based future.

Working with Tesla is a direct expression of Cardno’s mission of enriching the physical and social environment for the communities in which we live and work around the world.
