Northrop welcome David Farrar as their Victorian business manager

Northrop:
On weekends, you might David Farrar riding his
Triumph through the Yarra Valley, enjoying some good food and wine, or
doing a workout session at the gym. But at work, his passion lies firmly
in business development and building relationships. And he’s established
a vast network of clients and associates over his 25 years in the
property industry.
As a young and newly appointed Associate, David designed and managed a
$120M apartment development (Concept Blue Apartments, in Russell St,
Melbourne) from concept to completion. It was his first major project in
which he took the main lead. “It was four years of my life where I
learnt and grew so much in technical, project management and client
relationship skills,” he says. David forged many long-lasting
friendships and industry relationships through the experience.
Melbourne born and bred, David has worked in tier one consultancy firms
and senior management positions for most of his career. He built his
last two consultancy practices from ground zero and cites the most
challenging project he’s ever worked on as the $300M retail
refurbishment and extension works to the Myer Bourke Street building.
With experience comes insight, and David has learned “…to always listen
to the client, and always deliver.”
“I love helping clients by truly listening to their concerns and issues
and using my knowledge to solve problems and deliver cost-effective and
practical solutions. It means being bold enough to think differently
sometimes. To look outside the box and not always follow the norm,” he
says.
David has managed both single and multi-disciplinary engineering firms.
His move to Northrop was appealing for its employee-owned structure and
commitment to client service. “It’s great timing for me in terms of
where I am in my life,” he says. His focus now is to work with the
Melbourne team to strengthen its presence and growth in the local
construction industry.
“Northrop are a small player in the Melbourne market. My role as
Victorian Business Manager is to utilise all the knowledge and
experience I’ve acquired to translate the growth plans set by Northrop’s
Board into reality. And to show Melbourne that Northrop truly are a
force to be reckoned with.”
