New app helps drivers safely transport dangerous goods

20 December 2017

WA Government: An innovative app will make it easier for drivers to access information on transporting dangerous goods in Western Australia.

Developed by the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety, the Dangerous Goods Road Transport Decoder app is easy-to-use and can be used offline when saved to a mobile's home screen.

Once downloaded, users simply select the Class of dangerous goods, such as explosive or toxic gas, and the packaging type being transported.

The app then provides information about the transport safety requirements needed.

Drivers having a better understanding of the regulatory requirements will result in higher levels of safety on our roads when transporting dangerous goods.

The app is intended to be used in the preparation of transporting dangerous goods and not while driving.

Comments attributed to Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Johnston:

"One of the McGowan Government's key priorities is the safety of workers and this app will help protect them and the public on Western Australian roads.

"While ignorance of safety requirements is never an excuse, this app makes it easier for workers to know exactly what is required to safely transport dangerous goods to and from mine sites.

"This app is an excellent example of Western Australian innovation and I encourage transport drivers of dangerous goods to download it."
