Darlington Bridge Upgrade

Laing O'Rourke: Work to install a 3,000 tonne, 180 metre bridge as part of the Darlington Upgrade Project has been completed well ahead of schedule.

After months of planning, the Darlington Upgrade Project delivery team successfully manoeuvred the first bridge into place without a hitch over the weekend – with the roads reopening almost 24 hours ahead of schedule.

The 3,000 tonne, 180 metre bridge was constructed ‘off-site’ on land adjacent to the existing highway and then moved into place using self-propelled modular transporters - or SPMTs.

Laing O’Rourke is delivering the $620 million Upgrade Project in joint venture with Fulton Hogan as part of the Gateway South consortium. The project will deliver the upgrade of approximately 3.3 kilometres of the existing Main South Road, including:
