WSP strenghtens geotechnics and tunnelling capabilities in Queensland and South Australia

05 October 2017

WSP has named two new leaders to manage our Geotechnics and Tunnelling teams in our Queensland and South Australian offices. The appointments support the robust growth of our business as we deliver large-scale infrastructure projects across Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) in several markets.

Vincent Blanchet will lead our Geotechnics and Tunnels team in Queensland. He is a proven project manager with global experience in managing geotechnical projects. In the past few years, Mr Blanchet has delivered projects in Papua New Guinea and led geotechnical teams in Silverdale (Auckland) and Adelaide. He has a dedicated client focus and his skill set spans field testing to detailed design and construction management.

Nicholas Barker will lead our Geotechnics and Tunnels team in South Australia. His appointment marks a return to WSP, where he previously spent time as a team leader in Victoria growing our local Geotechnics practice. During his 15-year career, Mr Barker has developed well-honed geotechnical skills with a passion for leadership and project delivery in both South Australia and Victoria. These attributes will be a tremendous asset for us as we continue to grow the local market.

Doug Graham, WSP’s Section Executive for Geotechnics and Tunnels, says the new recruits will play an integral role in our ANZ business. “Vincent has great experience in leading teams and projects in several countries. He is quickly establishing himself in the local market and fostering strong client relationships.

“Nicholas is experienced across several markets, particularly transport and resources, having worked on the Regional Rail Link and the Barossa Water Pipeline project in the past. He has built teams from the ground up and has an ongoing involvement in South Australia that will support the expansion of our group there.

“Their combined leadership and experience will help enhance our regional ground engineering capability to deliver the major infrastructure projects we have in the pipeline.”

Mr Blanchet commenced his role on Monday 28 August while Mr Barker is due to start with the organisation on Monday 9 October 2017.
