NSW Budget: $1 Billion for Western Sydney roads

19 June 2017

More than $1 billion will be spent improving roads across Western Sydney as part of the NSW Government’s 2017-18 Budget.

Treasurer Dominic Perrottet, Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey and Minister for Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said the investment includes $153 million for Western Sydney growth roads such as the Narellan Road upgrade and the second stage of the upgrade of Schofields Road

“We’re cracking on with the delivery of vital arterial roads to ensure we can support residential and commercial growth and meet future traffic demand,” Mr Perrottet said.

“By 2031 more than half of all new jobs in Sydney will be created in Western Sydney, so we’re getting ahead to ensure road users and workers are connected with jobs across the region.”

Minister for Roads Melinda Pavey said the projects would help position the engine room of the NSW economy for the expected spike in employment and housing over the next 20 years.

“This funding will allow the continued transformation of the region’s economy and make Western Sydney an even better place to live and do business,” Ms Pavey said.

“Already more than 845,000 journeys to work start and end in Western Sydney, so this massive investment will enable roads to be widened, upgraded and new connections developed.”

Minister for Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said $648 million of combined Federal and NSW government funding will be made available to continue building and upgrading roads to support the Western Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek. “The airport is already proving a catalyst for economic growth, while the road upgrades will greatly benefit residents, including by reducing local congestion,” Mr Ayres said.

“It includes completion of the first stage of The Northern Road between Camden Valley Way and Peter Brock Drive and the first stage of Bringelly Road between Camden Valley Way and King Street.”

This package will also see construction commence on the second stage of Bringelly Road and the second stage of The Northern Road between Peter Brock Drive and Mersey Road.

$21 million has been allocated for planning of the M12 motorway, while $2 million has been set aside for planning of the Outer Sydney Orbital
