NSW budget leads Australia, World on infrastructure

26 June 2017

The NSW Budget lifts infrastructure funding to the highest-ever levels, shows analysis by Infrastructure Partnerships Australia released today (See Figure 1).

NSW leads the entire country and most of the world on infrastructure,” said Chief Executive Brendan Lyon.

“This is a real ‘infrastructure budget’ because it puts hard dollars behind actual transport, health and education projects.

“This sees infrastructure well-above the decade average and sees infrastructure peak at the highest ever level in NSW history.

“NSW has doubled funding for new hospitals and put in big injections for new schools, atop the already massive levels of transport investment underway across the State.

“The $1 billion earmarked for the Western Harbour Tunnel and southern Sydney’s F6 motorway ready are welcome signals that NSW will field an ongoing flow of major transport projects in coming years.

“NSW is a construction zone because the Budget has real money to pay for infrastructure, rather than ‘innovative finance’ that never actually appears.

“The NSW and Victorian budgets should be compulsory reading for every other Treasurer in the country, because both states show what a real ‘infrastructure budget’ looks like.”
