Construction kicks off on Bruce Highway upgrade

Seymour Whyte: With an official sod-turning event featuring special guests Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Darren Chester and Queensland Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey, construction officially commenced on the $929.3* million Bruce Highway Upgrade – Caloundra Road to Sunshine Motorway project.

The Fulton Hogan - Seymour Whyte Joint Venture (FHSWJV) were awarded the contract for the upgrade in September 2016.

Seymour Whyte Northern Region Operations Manager Will MacDonald said, “This project is a significant part of Seymour Whyte’s plan to further diversify into design and construct work.

“We are particularly proud to be part of the team that is delivering Australia’s first Diverging Diamond Interchange—an innovation that delivers greater safety benefits than conventional interchanges.”

Mr MacDonald said the project team had worked collaboratively with designers Arup and Jacobs for the past six months to finalise the detailed design and project planning.

“It is exciting to finally be on site to get on with the construction,” he said.
