Walker Corporation has announced the appointment of Mainland Civil to undertake the civil works on the $2 billion Parramatta Square project.

The first stage of works unlocks the Parramatta Square precinct and enables Walker to deliver the first two of four major buildings, which have been pre-committed to National Australia Bank for 42,000 square metres and Property New South Wales for 63,000 square metres.

The first two buildings will be delivered in 2019 and 2020, as well as a world class public domain of 6,000 square metres. The final two buildings will be delivered mid-2021.

Walker Corporation is working closely with Sydney Transport for NSW to facilitate a state of the art rail station connection, providing access for commuters from the station directly through the base of the towers into the public domain and 3,000 square metres of retail space, and the north of the central business district of Parramatta.

Conceived by award winning architects Johnson Pilton Walker (JPW), the first two buildings (3 and 4) have been designed with a focus on workforce health, well-being and productivity in order to raise efficiency and inspire creativity. Wellness factors include higher rates of outside air, improved lighting, better interaction with the environment and the use of green technologies. The office space will feature creative working, breakout and social areas, delivering flexible working options for the modern workforce.

The towers comprise a combined net lettable area of 110,000 square metres and 6,000 square metres of high quality retail space, stretching across three podium levels, while the public domain will become a vibrant, diverse space with restaurants, bars and cafes.

Chairman of Walker Corporation, Lang Walker said “The commencement to earthworks is a commitment to deliver on our promise to Council, our tenants and the Parramatta community. The first stage of delivery has been driven by our tenants and the demand for industry-leading office space that caters to the needs of Parramatta’s future workforce and it’s growing population of young, highly educated individuals.

These commercial towers will set a new benchmark for innovative, flexible and sustainable working, with amenities and premium office space for the public and blue chip tenants.”

Parramatta Square will become an iconic Sydney destination, combining cutting edge design and sustainability. Built to a minimum 5 Green Star, As Built Rating in accordance with the standards for environmentally sustainable development, set by the Green Building Council Australia, the commercial towers will provide best practice benchmarks for sustainability.

Walker is in discussions with a number of tenants to pre-commit the remaining towers and expects to make an announcement in the coming weeks.
