Engineering Meets Parliament
18 April 2017
Tasmanian Government: The Hodgman Liberal Government is
committed to fostering a strong and vibrant engineering industry in
Tasmania to support our economy and create local jobs into the future.
In attending the third annual
Engineers Australia - Engineering Meets
Parliament dinner with some of the nation’s leading engineers, we want
to ensure continued strong professional development and training for the
industry.
Importantly the Tasmanian Workforce Development Strategy, developed by
Engineers Australia with support of the Government, sets out a practical
and coordinated way to encourage more Tasmanians into the profession.
Since it was launched we have continued to support the sector and
provide assistance for the first two stages of the implementation.
Firstly we have established a workforce development committee to lead
initiatives identified by the industry.
Second, we will create a new skills framework for Tasmanian engineers to
participate more effectively in global supply chains and work virtually.
This was what the industry told us they needed and will underpin the
strength of the sector by providing pathways to a rewarding career, with
a focus on inclusiveness to appeal to a wider demographic.
Be it tackling the gender divide, moderating socio-economic factors that
may prevent capable young people following this path or seeking out new
Tasmanians moving to the state - this strategy will ensure engineering
as a profession remains attractive and achievable.
The Hodgman Government stands with Engineers Australia for the benefit
of the profession and the state.
