Proposed Heathcote Road upgrade a step closer
03 March 2017
State Member for Holsworthy, Melanie Gibbons said the proposed upgrade of Heathcote Road should reduce traffic congestion, improve safety, meet future traffic volumes and improve pedestrian and cyclist connectivity to Holsworthy Train Station and surrounding areas.
“Once built, the upgrade will see over two kilometres of Heathcote Road widened from the existing two lanes to a four lane divided road,” Ms Gibbons said.
“The upgrade will help to reduce travel times and congestion in the area and provide additional capacity for traffic turning into intersections, in particular the Macarthur Drive intersection”
“Community feedback was invited in October 2016 on the Review of Environmental Factors for the upgrade, with Roads and Maritime Services receiving 60 submissions.
“Feedback on the proposed upgrade was received on a range of issues including safety, noise and the heritage significance of the Holsworthy pedestrian bridge, also known as the Harris Creek Military Rail Bridge.
“All comments received from stakeholders and the community have been considered and refinements to the proposal have been made based on the feedback.”
“Subject to funding approval, Roads and Maritime will proceed to the detailed design phase of the proposed upgrade with the community updated as the project progresses.”
