Thompsons Road Upgrade One Step Closer To Completion
22 February 2017
Victorian Government: The Andrews Labor Government is a
step closer to fixing the notorious
Thompsons Road in
Melbourne’s
south-east with four companies now shortlisted for the second stage of
works.
BMD,
CPB,
Cut and Fill and
Winslow have been shortlisted to submit
tenders for the $175 million upgrade, with the contract due to be
awarded by mid-year and construction to start before Christmas.
The second stage of works includes duplication of the remaining sections
from Frankston-Dandenong Road to Marriott Boulevard and from Narre
Warren-Cranbourne Road to Berwick-Cranbourne Road.
As part of the project, traffic lights will be built at Western Port
Highway, improving traffic flow and reducing congestion for the 26,000
vehicles that use Thompsons Road each day.
Over 10km of new path for cyclists and pedestrians will also be
constructed, promoting healthy alternative transport options.
Stage one of the Thompsons Road upgrade is well underway with works to
remove the
level crossing near the Merinda Park Railway Station
beginning in December 2016.
Stage One is expected to be completed by late 2018, with the whole
project complete by mid-2019.
