Street welcomes Kangaroo Bay development
01 February 2017
Tasmanian Government: On behalf of the Hodgman
Government, I warmly welcome Clarence City Council’s decision to approve
the $50 million hotel and hospitality development at
Kangaroo Bay.
This is a significant job creating project which the Government has
facilitated through the Co-ordinator General.
The Kangaroo Bay development will create hundreds of jobs during the
construction phase and deliver ongoing economic benefits not just for
the eastern shore, but the whole region.
The project includes a 120-room 4 to 5 Star hotel which supports our
goal of attracting 1.5 million visitors to the state every year by 2020.
A new hospitality training school will be a key feature of the
development, which will be run by TasTAFE and Shandong Chambroad.
The hospitality training school would provide Tasmania with a high-end,
contemporary training facility that will help open the doors to
Tasmanians looking for a future in our expanding tourism and hospitality
sectors.
Jobs remain our number one priority which is why we are backing
significant projects like this one which not only will deliver new jobs
but ensure Tasmanians have the skills to meet the future workforce needs
of our thriving tourism industry.
