07 February 2017
Downer’s EC&M Construction team
has secured two contracts with a combined value of approximately $36
million with
Horizon Power for the design and construction of a power
station, zone substation and transmission line on the Onslow Distributed
Energy Resource (DER) project in
Western Australia.
Under the contracts, Downer’s scope of work includes the design,
procurement and construction works for the
power station and zone
substation and the design and construction works for the 33kV
transmission line works comprising:
-
8MW of electrical dispatchable power generation;
-
1MW battery energy storage systems for load sharing and grid stabilisation and voltage smoothing;
-
High pressure gas skid heating, pressure reduction and gas distribution;
-
11KV and 33KV power transformers and associated switch rooms and switch gear;
-
Fuel gas and fuel oil handling and transfer facility;
-
Engine oil handling facility;
-
SCADA and power station automatic load following control systems; and
-
Approximately 30km of underground MV cabling.
The work under the contracts commenced on 23 December 2016 with
completion expected in March 2018.
The new energy solution will cater for population growth and growing
demand as well as offer a more contemporary design to leverage advances
in renewable and battery storage technology, delivering an
environmentally friendly and economical solution to suit Onslow’s unique
energy needs.
The project is being delivered by Horizon Power and will be
predominantly funded through a State Development Agreement between the
Chevron-operated
Wheatstone Project (Chevron) and the Department of
State Development in Western Australia.
Downer’s Executive General Manager, Construction, Adam Cook, said Downer
was delighted to have been selected to deliver this important project
for Horizon Power and the Onslow community.
“The power station and zone substation are an integral part of the
Onslow Distributed Energy Resources project. We are proud to be
entrusted to deliver these important components as it highlights our
capability to undertake complex and critical infrastructure in the
electrical distribution sector,” Adam said.
“The award of the contract further raises our profile in the growing
electrical distribution sector and positions Downer strongly for
exciting future opportunities in this market with several new power
stations planned to come online in Western Australia in the next two
years.
“We look forward to establishing a strong relationship with Horizon
Power and providing a high level of service and delivering on our
commitments,” added Adam.
