Seymour Whyte awarded Swan St Bridge Upgrade
27 January 2017
Seymour Whyte: Acting Premier James Merlino and Acting Minister for Roads and Road Safety Philip Dalidakis announced Seymour Whyte Constructions as the successful tenderer for upgrade of Melbourne’s iconic Swan Street Bridge.
The $30 million upgrade (construction value $24.8 million) will slash travel times for the 30,000 vehicles that use it every day, as well as improve reliability and increase safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
Seymour Whyte Constructions Regional Manager – Southern Steve Lambert said the project was part of Seymour Whyte’s ongoing expansion into Victoria.
“The award of such a high profile project demonstrates the client’s confidence in our capability to deliver complex projects in dense, urban environments.”
The upgrade will include:
-
an additional lane in the eastbound direction on Swan Street Bridge and Olympic Boulevard – becoming five traffic lanes
-
two new four metre-wide separated pedestrian and cycling paths on both sides of the Bridge
-
a new pedestrian crossing on the Alexandra Avenue side of the Bridge
Works on the upgrade will start in March 2017 following the Moomba Festival.
