Statement on the retirement of NSW Premier Mike Baird

24 January 2017

IPA: Infrastructure Partnerships Australia acknowledges the legacy that Premier Mike Baird has left behind following his announcement that he will retire from politics next week.

“NSW Premier Mike Baird has changed New South Wales for the better and leaves a legacy of major infrastructure across the State” said IPA Chief Executive Brendan Lyon.

“NSW is in the midst of an infrastructure construction boom that is unprecedented in the State’s history.

“This boom in rail, road and health infrastructure is only possible because Mike Baird was willing to tackle the lease of the electricity poles and wires, an issue that had bedevilled New South Wales politics for 20 years.

“NSW is a very different state now, compared to a decade ago with strong economic growth and the nation’s best economic outlook.

“Mr Baird leaves an outstanding legacy and will be remembered alongside the best political leaders in this country.”
